Hello from the UK - Mienee12m - 07-17-2024 Hello to all I've just joined the group and as a new member thought I'd introduce myself so a little of my BMW history below. I'm a long time BMW owner going all the way back to e3 02's, I've had e3's, e12's, e24's, e28's and e34's, always the ones with the largest engines if possible with an eye to rarity wherever possible, and up until 6 years ago the newest BMW I'd owned was my 1988 e34 Alpina B10 that has been an ongoing project for far too many years. I'd had and still have modern BMW's as company car daily drivers but the older pre 2000's (pre 1990's if I'm honest) BMW's had always been my primary love. 6 years ago I'd sold the last older cars I'd had, an e12 M535 and an e24 635csi which left me with my long term project e34 but with nothing to drive as a fun car so on a whim I diverted from type massively and bought a 2003 745Li, so yes with absolutely no knowledge of all the horror stories I'd bought what many consider the worst car BMW has ever made. Even though great big land barges were not my thing six years on I can say my mind has been changed and I must have been a lucky bugger because mine has been an absolute joy to own, don't get me wrong its not been without incident, you can't buy a car this expensive and complex and not give it the care it requires but any trip is an occasion and it is by far the most relaxing place to be as far as cars go that I have ever been in. I've actually enjoyed my e66 ownership that much that 2 years ago I asked myself the question, how much harder would running two very complex and expensive BMW V8's be? and bought myself a manual gearbox 645 convertible to find out and so far both cars have been a joy to own. So that brings me onto wanting to join this group, knowledge is power with these cars and in my time of ownership apart from repairs I've done a few upgrades on my cars. I like to keep things as stock as possible but within that my e66 now has digital TV and DAB radio using BMW modules and I've upgraded the MMI and ASK units so that I could fit an Android screen in the front which I've done in both cars. I've been reasonably active on a few of the E63 and E65 facebook groups and learnt a lot from the more knowledgeable people in them and hopefully helped a few people along the way myself but thought I'd widen my horizons because there is so much knowledge out there and with these cars any knowledge is useful. So hopefully I can contribute more than I take. |
