Replacement VDC module help - dansta - 01-16-2025
Hi all!
Had a boot/trunk full of water in my Japanese imported 2013 M135i (F20) and got the "chassis function restricted" error recently.
ISTA could not communicate with the VDC module. I found the part, removed it and ordered a used part with exactly the same part number (6863502).
Popped it in and got a few errors like "EDC: Control unit is not encoded for this vehicle" etc, so opened up E-SYS to see what I could do.
Thankfully I found an older SVT backup I had made and was able to restore what I believe is the correct coding/software:
Original part to the car (and now current setting on replacement part):
BTLD_00001C4E_005_002_000
CAFD_000006C6_003_005_000 (or CAFD_000006C6_003_005_001)
HWEL_000006C2_003_001_000
SWFL_00000930_006_016_002 (or SWFL_00000930_006_017_002 or SWFL_00000930_006_018_002)
SWFL_00000931_006_016_002 (or SWFL_00000931_006_017_002 or SWFL_00000931_006_018_002)
Replacement part was (I believe it came from an F10 M5):
BTLD_00001C4E_005_002_000 (the same)
HWEL_000006C2_003_001_000 (the same)
SWFL_00000930_006_016_002
SWFL_00000931_006_016_002
Notably did not have the CAFD file?
Created a TAL file and did cdDeploy and swDeploy on just that module which was successful.
Opened ISTA-P again, had three errors:
482951 - EDC: Vertical acceleration sensor - Front left - zero point not learned
482955 - EDC: Vertical acceleration sensor - Front right- zero point not learned
482A26 - EDC: Valve coil - Front right - open circuit
After following the test plan procedure, I was able to get rid of the first two faults leaving just 482A26.
I guess the obvious thing to do next is check the front right physically, line faults etc, but is there anything I may have done wrong so far?
