External Power Supply - mikolajzbb - 04-06-2025

Hi Everyone!

I’m thinking about buying an external power supply for flashing ECUs. I have found many expensive and one in lower price.

Will this one be ok for the job?

Hi,

For an off-the-shelf solution, this looks very capable. I would certainly trust that to deliver the needed power for any modern car, given it has a 100A rating.

Another option, if you are handy with electronics would be to re-purpose an old server PSU and configure it to run at a little more than the usual 12 volts. These can be had very cleaply on ebay ($20) but would be a bit of work to configure appropriately. I'll likely be doing this fairly soon, and will do a write up of the build, if people are interested?

Cheers

be careful doing the diy server psu as all different models even of same brand say the HP psu have different layouts on the boards , model number might be just slightly different or the 1 you get different to the one pictured. and output also depends on your supply voltage ie 110 volt wont give you as high amp out as 240 volt.

I had 25A PSU, but it wasn't enough for me... I've pulled trigger and went for GysFlah. Expensive, but it's best at market Wink

this should do the job for most of the new BMW cars, and nice that it has 2 mods ( charging or Supply ) .

I have 2 Server PSU's that generate 90A total , used it many times on Gxx cars , never needed more than 70A .
