i think the only safe way is to update them 1 by 1 if you want to hack something, but if you dont have any problems and everything is working, then there probably is not even any point in updating them and possibly even braking something that was already working.... plus some updated modules might not work properly with the outdated ones and will just create more problems etc... or maybe the update failure might have been caused by the user itself or some carly adapters or whatever and updating all of the modules might be ok after all...
