Issue after ID4 to ID6 upgrade - dwori - 07-16-2025

Hi everyone,

I recently upgraded my system from ID4 to ID6. Everything seems to be working fine — the screen works perfectly while driving and doesn't crash or turn off randomly. However, I’m facing a weird issue that only happens occasionally.
Sometimes (maybe once a week, sometimes after almost 3 weeks), when I come back to the car after it's been locked and off for a while, the screen doesn’t power on at all. The only way to bring it back is by holding the power button for about 30 seconds, and then it starts up normally and works fine again. This is the only issue — and it’s rare, but annoying.

I'm wondering if I missed something in the coding or forgot to change a setting during the upgrade. Has anyone experienced this before or knows what might be causing it?

Any advice or suggestions would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Which car are we talking about here ?

F83 / 2016 - NBTEVO_Y24073J

I’m starting to think the issue might be related to some coding or maybe the software version I installed — possibly it’s too new.

Whenever I take the car to a BMW service, I always revert the system back to ID4, and after I get the car back, I reinstall ID6. Interestingly, I never experience this issue on ID4, which makes me wonder if the latest "Y" version might be causing the problem — and maybe I should try installing an older "O" version instead…

the issue is very known for BMW ID4 to ID6 upgrade .

the only solution is to flash the headunit again with something like SDP 4.11.20 , as far as I remember it is either " M " or " N " version, this SDP was the last version which has APIX1 driver .

I think with this version , carplay full screen is not possible .

Flash it with I-level 1803 is the most stable for id4 to id6 and Carplay fullscreen

Hello, no need to flash to older istep
this can be fixed with a binary patch after opening ssh

The public patch you see does not work neither on BMW nor on MINI
tried and tested, doesnt work

That's why I asked you if you are willing to share a good one.

The only free option for BMW ID4 owners is to flash the unit with ID6 from I-Level 18-03 which is the last supported version for APIX1.

On the other hand , Mini owners have no Choice but either live with black screen after flashing ID4 unit with ID6 software , or pay someone who offers the non Public APIX1 Partition Binary.
