Help and advice for 6wb fit

Please excuse , I am a complete NOOB to BMW coding and desperate to learn .  I have a 2015 6 series Gran coupe and the cluster is goosed , I have sourced a replacement serial numbers are almost an exact match .  I can virginise it , I have xhorse chips and can zero mileage and erase vin data in both eeprom chips .  I am not sure what info I can get off the original cluster .  

I have ESYS , Ista etc 

when I fit the cluster and switch vehicle off , leave for a while does the car sync/ inject  vin data with the cluster , I know mileage updates from Cas module ...

again apologies for basic questions but as most how 2s assume this is already known and dont explain  it
