Once I get the download do I need a fsc generator to apply the map update? I'm new to this

There is no FSC generator for EVO Headunts like normal NBT headunits , you either buy OEM FSC from BMW , or you get patch your headunit then you can get lifetime map fsc.

for some regions , BMW is now offering free lifetime FSC for map update , you can donate and get VIP status , then you can ask for FSC repair kit for your car's vin, then hopefully it includes lifetime FSC

In Europe , new BMW cars have at least 3 years free map update , so yes the owners can update the map without having to worry about fsc. OR if the headunit is patched , then 99% the headunit will have a lifetime map update fsc.
