EGS / Valve Body virginize question
#1
Question
Hey everyone,

I’m swapping out the transmission on my 2017 F30 340i (B58) and picked up a donor 8HP from a 2016 model. The original unit had issues clutch B/E faults and erratic shift behavior so I’m doing the full replacement.

My plan is to reuse the valve body/mechatronic from the 2016 box, but I’ll need to virginize the EGS (TCM) before flashing/coding it to my car.

Has anyone done this successfully on the F3x chassis?

Specifically:
  • Can the 2016 EGS be virginized via Tool3, Ista-p or esys, or do I need to clone the original one?
  • Once virgin, is E-Sys VO coding enough to load the correct CAFD and get it accepted by the DME?
  • Do I need to match firmware versions or flash via ISTA/P afterward?

Any insights, steps, or gotchas from those who’ve done similar "retrofits" would be super appreciated.

Thanks in advance ?

The egs isn can be reset, or if you have the option to clone it its also on the table
afterwards a flash and code are okay to do
