BMW E60 545i – Starting Issues After Water Damage
#1
Hey everyone,

I recently picked up a BMW E60 545i that’s having some starting problems. According to the previous owner, the car was running great until it had water intrusion inside the dashboard. After that, he said he replaced all the affected control modules and had someone come out to program them.

I haven’t done a whole lot with it yet, but I did notice that the CAS still shows a tampering fault code, and the fuel system coding seems to be incorrect as it's a fault code. I believe there was also a fault related to the SIM module saying its broken.

Right now, my suspicion is that if I update the SP-Daten files and reprogram all the modules properly, it might resolve the issue. I attempted to sync the CAS, but the VIN came up as unknown, which isn’t a great sign.

If anyone has suggestions or things I should check or try, feel free to comment. I’ll keep this thread updated with what I find and whether or not I manage to get it running.

Thanks in advance!  Big Grin

Hello everyone,

Just wanted to share an update — I was out working on the car and decided to dive deeper into ISTA+ for some module diagnostics and testing. I wanted to get a better understanding of the fault codes and what might be causing the issues.

ISTA+ worked great and gave me detailed info. However, I ran into a problem when switching over to ISTA P. During the vehicle search, ISTA P couldn’t find my car’s specifications. But weirdly enough, as soon as I closed the search window, ISTA P displayed all the correct specs from the car. That got me thinking — maybe it has something to do with the programming status or missing key data?

I checked in INPA, and according to it, all modules seem OK with programming. So now I’m a bit confused.

Here’s the warning I get in ISTA P (sorry, it’s in Swedish): ? https://i.imgur.com/5cpYotH.png
And here’s what shows when I end the session: ? https://i.imgur.com/ae0Rbg1.png
All the fault codes are listed here: ? https://i.imgur.com/PoMrDqb.png

I’d really appreciate any advice on how to move forward. A few modules are throwing a "wrong programming" fault code, so I need to reprogram them.

I’m currently using a K+DCAN cable, but I also have an ENET cable I could try. I’d just need to get a USB-to-ENET adapter first. I’ve already checked all the COM ports, confirmed OBD.ini and EDIABAS are configured properly, and tried all the common tricks I could find online. I even reinstalled the drivers, but still no luck.

If anyone has ideas or experience with this kind of issue, I’d really appreciate your input!
Thanks in advance!

You need to sort EKPM issue. Is the car cranking? Nothing apart from that would lead to a no start situation.
Don't try programming with ista p. What modules did you change?
