FA/VO Change After CCC > CIC
#1
I recently installed a pre-configured CIC retrofit package into my '09 E60 M5. The person I bought the parts from on eBay "coded" the CIC head unit (also from an E60) to my VIN. I have installed everything and everything works including NAV; however, I feel that I still need to tell the car (FA/VO) that it has a CIC head unit and not a CCC.

When I scan the car for issues using ISTA, it shows the CCC module as inoperable (as well as one other I can't remember). Additionally, I cannot read the CAPPL module using NCSEXPERT (which I believe is to be expected as the CCC head unit has been removed). Since the CIC head unit is already set up for my car, do I just need to add CIC to the VO and remove CCC? If so, what modules do I need to write this change to? I assume CAS, anything else?

Here is what the car has in terms of multimedia (below) - I assume I would need to remove S6VB and add S609A?

Multimedia
S609 Navigation System Professional
S610 Head-Up Display
S620 Voice Control
S639 Preparation F Mobile Phone Cpl. USA/CDN
S645 BMW US Radio
S655 Satellite Tuner
S694 Provisions For BMW 6 CD Changer
S697 Area-Code 1 For DVD
S6AA BMW TeleServices
S6AB Control, Teleservices
S6FL USB/Audio Interface
S6UH Traffic Information
S6VB CCC Assignment

You need to change FA and timecriteria.

Delete FA for CCC and add FA for CIC and correct timecriteria
Then FA write on CAS and LMA and code cic

I gave this a shot and I'm still running into this issue when I try and read the CIC module:

Wondering if I'm missing a file or something?

Also, when you say timecriteria, you are referring to the production date correct? Right now I'm using #0909 the car is a #0908 build.

I had the incorrect sp-data files loaded... forgot I was working on an E46 last week and now I'm working on an E60. I can now read the CIC module after updating C:\NCSEXPER\SGDAT and C:\EDIABAS\Ecu with the correct sp-daten data from v71. Beginner mistake.

What I found (maybe I made some other change that I didn't realize) is once I had loaded the sp-daten data into the correct spots on my computer, I was able to read the CIC module. I'm not sure if that makes sense or not but that is what I had observed. I can now see the config in my FSW_PSW.TRC file and should be able to manipulate and write to the CIC module.

Just wanted to follow up and confirm the only change that I think I actually needed to do was remove $6VB from the VO so it wasn't throwing errors. Doing this seemed to have allowed me to see the CIC module when I loaded the FA/VO into ncsexpert. In order to actually read the CIC module, I needed to have the correct sp-daten data as noted above (this will be obvious to most I think but I had been working on two different cars so I had neglected to update the data).

The next thing I wanted to tackle was coding HD radio into the car. My car didn't have HD radio from the factory (which turns out is a good thing for the CIC retrofit) but the CIC head unit did have HD radio (perhaps they all do). I was able to add HD radio to the VO ($653) and then make HD radio "active" so it shows up in iDrive by setting RADIO_IBOC to "aktiv".

I did read somewhere that writing the incorrect production date (e.g. FA_WRITE $0909) to CIC and LMA isn't necessary (or desireable) but you may need to change it to enable some features to be coded to the module (or something to that effect, whomever is reading this, I'm guessing on this so do your research).
