2012 Bmw 118d m sport fem Upgrade programming missing code

Hi, I'm new to all this and I have run into an issue with trying to add keys via the bench.

I was using the xhorse key tool plus connected to the FEM module and to unlock the fem it requested to upgrade the module programming. once the update was finished, the fem now says the code is missing and cannot add any keys.

I've tried to restore the fem to the original backup but this just fails. When I compare the screenshots from before and after, it looks like the update is missing the cadf software. 

any help in this would be greatly appreciated.
