2a96/2a82 diagnosis
#1
Hey guys, I’ve been chasing down a 2a82 vanos code for a while. It’s a 2007 bmw 328i. I bought the car with extremely low torque rough idle and stalling issues with many codes but this was the one that stuck out to me regarding symptoms. I changed oil and replaced vanos solanoids the day I got it. That changed nothing. Then I checked timing and it was good, then I replaced the vanos gear, as well as checking oil pressure both good. I still have the codes, I replaced my camshaft sensors with new oe. Actually worse now, it was drives me before but isn’t now. Finally tonight I tried unplugging both solanoids and running the car and when doing that it started up great, ran for about 5 seconds then dipped down super hard from 1000 to 400 rpm. After that it jumped back up to 800. Right when the dip happened I got code 2a96 for crankshaft sensor tooth fault. After that it idled super rough slowly dipping till it stalled. Cleared codes and started again sand thing. 5 times in a row. Then I plugged back in vanos started up and that code didn’t come back, still ran terrible but now I had my 2a82 again instead. I’m thinking crankshaft sensor but I’ve gotten so many misleading codes so far so I wanted to ask here before I bought it.
