How to Register/Code Battery E/F Series
#1
E SERIES:

rocedure to register new battery using INPA:

Step 1: select BODY from the left hand pop-up menu
Step 2: select POWER MODULE in the right hand list
Step 3: select ACTIVATE from the next menu
Step 4: Select ACTIVATE2 from the next menu
Step 5: Then select F7 - Register battery replacement. Almost instantly you get the message: "Register battery replacement Activated properly."

F SERIES:

In that case you open up Toolset 32 (under EDIABAS folder):
1. Open MSD80.prg

2. Look up steuern_batterietausch_registri. (near bottom of job list)

3. Go to Jobs menu

4. Select Run Job

(May alternatively be under MSV70 or MSV80.prg)

Also, and this is important:
THIS IS ONLY FOR REGISTERING AN OEM BATTERY FROM BMW! Alternate replacements will need additional coding to match voltage etc differences

This write up is for registering the replacement. It applies if the new battery is the same type and with same parameters as the previous one.

If you change the battery type (AGM<->lead-acid) and/or capacity you will also have to change the battery specs in VO and code modules that need it. Different models need different approach.

I always thought the E series did not require to register the battery.

Interesting

To register or code a Battery E/F Series, ensure you have a compatible diagnostic tool or software that supports battery registration, such as ISTA or a suitable OBD2 scanner. Begin by installing the battery correctly, then access the battery management or power module in the software. Follow the prompts to register the new battery, entering details like capacity, type, and serial number if required. This process ensures proper charging and system communication, helping extend battery life and optimize vehicle performance. sso id

Hi,
Registering or coding a Battery for the E/F Series is an important step to ensure the vehicle’s electrical system recognizes the new battery properly. Modern cars, especially BMW E and F Series, require battery registration to reset charging parameters, prevent overcharging, and extend battery life. The process typically involves using diagnostic tools or specialized software like ISTA, INPA, or third-party OBD apps that allow you to input battery specifications. Without proper registration, the alternator may not charge the new battery correctly, leading to performance issues. Always follow manufacturer guidelines or consult a professional technician for accurate coding.mp bhulekh
